OUR MISSION

Culture*Park creates an avenue for new and developing works, area theatre, dance, and performing artists, and playwrights, while preserving traditional forms in a contemporary context.  We embrace cross-cultural themes, we engage the community in projects and playbuilding, we provide access to theatre, dance and media that is challenging, bold and innovative and that highlights the multi-culturalism of New Bedford and Southern New England.

 
Patricia A. Thomas, C*P Artistic Director
Patricia A.Thomas is theatre performer, director, teacher and producer. A member of Actor’s Equity Association since 1985, Patricia began her professional career at Trinity Repertory Company in
Providence, Rhode Island, where she was a Company member and Trinity Rep Kaplan Acting Fellowship recipient. She was a voice and singing instuructor at the Trinity Rep Conservatory, while in Providence.
Patricia has worked with new and emerging plays throughout her theatre career, and actively and consistently fosters and makes theatre and performance projects come about.

In Boston, at The Theatre Offensive, she collaborated with the local LGBTQ youth community on a
two-year project to devise the musical, Love & Mosquitoes, which toured Cambridge and Boston. She co-devised and directed new plays with the Teen Theatre Ensemble at the Boston Center for the Arts,
and at Emerson College Summer Stage. Her full length play adaptation of Reis-Felix’s novel about
New Bedford, MA, Through A Portagee Gate, was commissioned by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture, and, in 2008, published in the volume,
Two Portuguese-American Plays.
Patricia has worked internationally as a music and theatre teacher and director, including many years at the Leysin American School, in Leysin, Switzerland, and the Anglo-American School, in Moscow, Russia.
Patricia facilitates drama and acting workshops, and is a private music and theatre coach and teacher. S

he is a teacher in the Humanities Division at Bristol Community College.
Patricia is co-founder - with Rebecca Schade - of Culture*Park Theatre in New Bedford, MA, where she is Artistic Director, co-director of the annual Culture*Park Short Plays Marathon, and current co-editor, of Culture*Park Short Plays Marathon: An Anthology of Plays, 2002-2016.


 
Rebecca Schade, C*P Executive Director
Rebecca Schade has worked internationally as a Designer. Her studio, French Curve Design,
specializes in film, media and installation. Her award-winning works have appeared in shows such as
Graphis / Switzerland, The One Show / NYC, Creativity / NYC, the New York, Boston, and Houston Art Directors' Clubs and numerous film and video festivals. Her film awards have included Best of Show at
the International Festival for Multi-Image . 
Projects and clients include Lisbon Aquarium, The Kentucky Derby Museum , Charleston SC Visitor Center, Amnesty International, Polaroid, Museum of Fine Arts-Boston, Brown University Rare Book Library,
Rhode Island School of Design, Design Research and Marimekko Oy.
Rebecca's design works for stage have ranged from international productions to regional Equity
productions including for Merrimack Repertory Company, Womens' Theatre Ensemble, Theatre Offensive,
and The Boston Center for the Arts.
With Culture*Park her plays Scratch and Dent, Exultation of Larks, BUMP, Rhino, Division Road, Delta Brilliant, and Dot, Frank & the Wicked Digger have been presented at past C*P Short Plays Marathons.
Research, a play based on the life and works of Zora Neale Hurston has been performed at Gallery X
and The Everlasting Itch, a one-man Moby Dick, has been performed numerous times at the New Bedford Whaling Museum and as part of The Zeiterions In-School Tour of the region.
Rebecca is a songwriter, and writes plays and screenplays. She is co-founder of Culture*Park.
